“Creativity, as has been said, consists largely of rearranging what we know in order to find out what we do not know”.
Techkriti ’10 in collaboration with NTPC brings yet another opportunity to uncover the creative genius within you through ‘NTPC Fly Ash Challenge’. The challenge is to bring up creative, environment friendly and innovative designs using fly-ash as a major ingredient.
Fly ash is a residue of coal combustion that occurs at power generation plants. Fly ash is generally captured from the chimneys of coal fired power plants. It is a pozzalanic material which in the presence of water, reacts with lime in normal temperature to form additional cementations material.
Fly ash which results from burning of bituminous or lignite coal contains large quantities of Silica, Alumina and Ferric Oxides with some quantities of other oxides, alkali’s and unburned carbon. In addition to this, a fairly large quantity of lime is also available from coal. More details can be found at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fly_ash.
NTPC, as we all know, is the largest power company in India. The quality of ash produced conforms to the requirements of ‘IS 3812 – 2003’ standards. NTPC has been focusing on the utilization of ash generated by its power stations to convert the challenge of ash disposal into an opportunity. Fly ash is being already used in various fields. Some of them can be found at https://www.ntpc.co.in/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=18:ash-utilization&catid=29:the-cms&Itemid=94&lang=en . We need you to bring up more innovative ways in which fly ash can be used.
